How do I participate

Up & Coming is geared towards musicians who:

  • Come from all walks of African life
  • Have experience in performance and are serious about pursuing a career in the music industry
  • Understand the importance of professionalism and branding
  • Want the opportunity to showcase themselves on this platform

It is NOT for first time people who want to try music out and see if this is what they want to do

It is NOT a jam session

Participants are expected to:

  • Showcase 5 original songs or a 30 minute set on stage
  • Please keep songs to a maximum length of 3-4 minutes each
  • Perform to live music – NO backing tracks are permitted
  • Showcase a well rehearsed tight set including interaction with the crowd
  • Dress the part and be beautifully presentable – no jeans and t-shirts unless they are very neat and presentable

Invited music styles & genres:

Predominantly African music, which can also be inspired by the following influences:

Jazz / Soul and Neo Soul / Poetry / RnB / Pop / Gospel / World Music / Soft Rock

PLEASE NOTE: Kwaito, House and Hip Hop are not currently promoted at Up & Coming

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

We require the following from all applicants:

  • 2 contrasting original music clips in MP3 format
  • An invite to a live performance or rehearsal as we need to see your performance presentation
  • Recent biography (Word Format ONLY)
  • Recent photographs (Close up, professional high resolution ONLY)
  • Youtube video footage links to your performances
