Jankie Makopa is an artist whose style of music is greatly influenced by his tswana backround. Through his music junkie tells a story about his journey through the music industry. His sound is predominantly built around ethnics however he has merged that with other genres of music. He always ensures that he keeps his identity rooted in all his tracks.
Jankie Makopa was born on the 26 October 1985 in Kagiso, Mogale City. He both sings and raps in Setswana.
As a child he attended different primary schools due to living in Botswana and RSA. He attended Princess High School where he discovered his love for arts, he started singing at talent shows.
Being born in a family of choir singers, Jankie became a solo singer in the church choir. In 2006 he won Mr Roodepoort College where he then moved on to win Figures Modelling, Roodepoort model of the season 3 times in a row. In 2007 he joined the “Our Lady Of Peace Cast” (OLP Cast) and in the process he got the opportunity to perform a lead role in a production at the Market Theatre.
He found employment later in 2007 as a flight attendant at South African Airways. In 2011 he was featured on Etv’s “Rolling With Zola” as one of the artists.
Jankie Makopa was discovered by Modise Kgomo, Managing Director and owner of On Point Records in 2013 after resigning as a flight attendant. He’s releasing his maiden main stream album called “Phala” under On Point Records.
Amongst the mentioned Jankie Makopa has been on numerous media mediums for interviews and performances on Radio stations: Metro FM, Thobela FM, Ikwekwezi fm, Motsweding fm and Mafikeng FM and Television programmes: Morning Live, Sunrise and Craze. Newspapers: Sowetan and Daily Sun to mention a few.
He has also had the opportunity to open up for the multi award winning group Mafikizolo on numerous shows around South Africa including the “Old Mutual Picnic Garden”
